POSITION TITLE: Tenured Faculty (Full Professor) & Department Chair

 

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

 

The https://www.csus.edu/college/business-administration/management/ is comprised of eleven tenure-line faculty who teach and conduct research in areas related to organizational behavior, human resources management, labor relations, and business communications. Department faculty include award-winning teacher-scholars who have been recognized for innovative teaching and research at the University, California State System, and national and international levels. The Department serves all undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration through core courses such as Human Resources-Organizational Behavior (HROB 101) and Business Communications (MGMT 102). The Department is also responsible for curricula and courses in the Human Resources-Organizational Behavior undergraduate concentration and MBA program. Opportunities to teach exist in the Business Honors program, as well as overload (additional compensation) in EMBA and iMBA courses. A Master's of Human Resources, to be housed in the Management & Organizations Department, is approved by the Chancellor's Office and under development.

 

POSITION DETAILS:

 

The Department of Management & Organization in the College of Business at California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State) invites applications from highly-qualified candidates for Department Chair. Candidates should have academic credentials that qualify for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with Tenure.

 

The intent is for the successful candidate to begin their role in the Fall 2024 semester. The assignment as Chair of the Department of Management & Organizations is a 12-month position with an initial 3-year term, renewable pending re-nomination and approval of the President in accordance with department and campus policies. This position will be split between chair (40%) and academic year faculty (60%) roles. Should the chair assignment not continue after the initial three-year term, the incumbent's academic year faculty position will increase to 100%.

 

The Department Chair will lead by example and contribute to a positive department culture; encourage and support department faculty to develop and maintain an innovative curriculum; support quality research and professional development; and actively engage with alumni, employers, and professionals in the region. The Department Chair will coordinate with the Associate Dean offices pertaining to faculty workload and support, instructional scheduling, enrollment management, and accreditation. The Department Chair is a member of the College's Executive Council, working with other Department Chairs and the Dean's Office to achieve the College's strategic goals.

 

JOB DUTIES:

 

• Serve as Chair of the Department of Management & Organizations (40%), including, but not limited to, the following duties:

• Work collaboratively with department faculty to foster a positive culture

• Facilitate processes for faculty hiring, onboarding, retention, and ongoing support

• Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs Office and department faculty on course assignments, course scheduling, and enrollment management

• Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Support Office on faculty evaluation processes, committee assignments, and faculty professional development and support

• Contribute to student recruitment, retention, advising, and success efforts

• Facilitate instructional support operations

• Provide leadership in curriculum development and program planning

• Represent the department at the College, University, and community levels

• Other duties as assigned by Dean or Associate Deans

 

• Serve as faculty, with teaching, research/creative activity, and service duties (60%) that include:

• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, using multiple modes of delivery, which could include online and hybrid and may fall within or outside of “regular business hours”

• Engage in scholarly and professional activities to maintain currency/relevancy and AACSB scholarly academic (SA) status

• Provide service to the institution at the Department, College, and University levels

• Provide service to the community in the incumbent's area of specialization

• Contribute to University initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement

• Other duties consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, as established through the CSU and the California Faculty Association

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Ph.D. in Business Administration (or related discipline) from AACSB, AMBA or EQUIS-accredited institution.

• A record of excellence in teaching, service, and high-quality peer-reviewed research within the discipline appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with Tenure (Associate Professors nearing application for promotion to Full Professor are also encouraged to apply)

• Having held a tenured position at a university or equivalent

• Demonstrated commitment and experience working effectively with a diverse team of faculty and staff colleagues

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered in the Management & Organizations Department (e.g., organizational behavior, human resources management, business communications, labor relations, and/or other management-related courses)

• Track record of publications (peer-reviewed articles) in high-quality journals in the candidate's area of specialization

• Experience leading an academic unit (or equivalent)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Knowledge and experience in group facilitation, mediation, and/or conflict negotiation/resolution

• Experience working in an AACSB-accredited college or school of business

• 2 years' experience leading an academic unit (or equivalent)

• Interest in and experience with inclusive forms of student engagement and pedagogy in the classroom

• Strong commitment to and previous experience in teaching to a diverse student body

• Experience with curricular development (e.g., existing and new undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs)

• A record of developing relationships with business, government, and/or non-profit communities, consistent with Sacramento State's Anchor University Initiative

• Demonstrated knowledge of higher education issues and trends at the state, national, and global levels

• Demonstrated knowledge of the processes and practices of working at a large public university

• Knowledge and experience of a collective-bargaining workplace

• Demonstrated ability to manage and generate resources

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assisting an academic unit to create a vision for the future and implementing the vision successfully

OTHER SPECIFICS ABOUT THE POSITION:

 

The classification annual salary range for Full Professor Academic Year is $93,528 - $165,564. The anticipated annual starting salary is $130,000 - $140,000. The Department Chair salary portion will be augmented per Unit 3 CBA requirements and is estimated to increase the total salary to $141,000 - $153,000.
